Save the dates! Here are a few events for your Summer calendar.
THE LUNA CINEMA, KENSINGTON PALACE
9-13 August
Pack a picnic (without alcohol – drinks must be bought at the bar), book a chair, choose a film – they’re showing five nights of films against a backdrop of Kensington Palace in Hyde Park – and get ready to have a classic British high summer night. This year’s films are The Devil Wears Prada (Wednesday), Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Thursday), Top Gun: Maverick (Friday), The Great Gatsby (Sat) and Notting Hill (Sunday). Films start at 8:30PM.
YINKA ILORI: PARABLES FOR HAPPINESS, KENSINGTON, DESIGN MUSEUM
Until 25 June
Now in its final weeks, Yinka Ilori’s exhibition showcases signature elements of his aesthetic – bright graphics drawn from a mix of cultures that promote joy – alongside some of his key influences, like Nigerian textiles. There are over 100 objects to look through, which show how he uses design to showcase cultural influences.
SERPENTINE PAVILION 2023 BY LINA GHOTMEH, KENSINGTON, SERPENTINE GALLERIES
9 June-29 October
This year’s Serpentine Pavilion, designed by Lebanese-born, Paris-based Lina Ghotmeh is called À Table, and is based on the idea of sitting together with friends to share ideas and dialogue. There’s a circular table inside, and the structure is built with low-carbon materials. Ghotmeh has a focus on sustainability, and the low roofs encourage people to remain seated and share ideas.

THE GREAT BRITISH BEER FESTIVAL, OLYMPIA LONDON
1-5 August
Here, you’ll be able to sample over 100 beers and ciders from some of the most innovative breweries around. There will also be wine and gin, sessions led by experts, street food and over 30 bars on site. Book discounted tickets using the code OLYMPIA23.
NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL, NOTTING HILL
27-28 August
Always two of the best summer days out, the Notting Hill Carnival returns this August over the bank holiday weekend with sound systems, parades, food stalls, and good vibes. This year also sees the return of the UK National Panorama Steelband Competition, which is the most respected competition of its kind outside of the Caribbean. Tickets go on sale 20 July, and money raised is split amongst the bands, which helps fund their practice throughout the year. Be sure to download the carnival app, so you know where to go throughout the two days. Happy Carnival!
